The new rail connection from Delhi to Meerut to be built with Slab Track Austria.

The client National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is developing a brand new Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). This future star-shaped network around Delhi will have three corridors built in Phase 1 and another five in future phases. For the implementation of the first corridor from Delhi to Meerut, Slab Track Austria was selected as the ballastless track system for the 82.5 km double-track Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor. The line will run through 25 stations and be built on various civil structures – on viaducts, at-grade and in tunnels.

The operating speed for the new high-capacity commuter line will be three times higher than that of metro, with a maximum speed reaching 160 km/h. The end-to-end journey from Delhi to Meerut will take under an hour and relieve the traffic congestion and C02 emissions in the region.

Austrian technology with value added for India.

As a slab track system provider for the project, PORR was responsible for the track system design, training and supervision for production, and installation supervision.

Slab Track Austria technology has been proven in maintenance-free operation since 1989. It was developed in Austria and since implemented on metro, standard and high-speed railway lines in Europe, Asia and Australia.

The Delhi-Meerut project is the first Slab Track Austria implementation in India. It will be used for the entire route, both on the mainline and in 116 turnout (S&C) areas, including cross-over and diamond crossing geometries.

PORR engineered slabs were manufactured locally by an Indian precast specialist and built by a local construction company under a direct contract with the client NCRTC, also creating value added for the region.
