Slab tracks for Wienerwald Tunnel.
In the east, the dual-track new construction section Vienna–St. Pölten connects to the connecting section between the Western, Eastern and Donauländebahn railway lines (Lainz Tunnel project) and links to the existing Western Railway line via the Wagram junction. The new construction section’s overall length is approx. 44km of which Wienerwald Tunnel, which runs from Hadersdorf-Weidlingau in the east to Chorherrn in the west, represents 11.6km.
The main portion of this section was executed as two single-track tunnel tubes equipped with slab tracks and, in parts, with mass-spring systems. The entire track superstructure allows for the use of emergency vehicles and thus meets the tunnel safety concept.
